A portrait of a woman in a deep emotional crisis.
The expression of the face is calm but the treatment of the surface gives the sense of existential despair. In addition the use of materials (plaster, burlab, chickenwire, wood and metal for the structure) gives the sense of fragility of the female soul. It belongs to a series of works with the general title “The machine of homecoming” dealing with issues concerning the consequences of war in the relations between the members of the family.
Stylistically the outline of the figure is an archaic greek sculpture but the materials used and the non- finito qualities give the sculpture a contemporary aura.
