PlaceCyprusConceptA monument designed for the remembrance of a fatal military aircraft accident in Cyprus. The concept was a reference to the archetypal Greek myth of Icarus, a mythological character who was killed after his artificial wings were destroyed when he flied near the sun, despite his father Daidalus’s instructions. The monument is composed of two main spatial elements a square surface slightly inclined and an upright cross like metal construction that create stability and dynamism. The tragic figure of Icarus sculpture is placed to the composition organically as an armless figure which has a pair of metal wings instead of arms adding tension in the composition.
