PlacePorto Valitsa, Chalkidiki, GreeceDate2004ConceptThe title of the installation is “Penelope” taken from Homer΄s Odyssey of the name of the wife of Ulysses, who was waiting for her husband for 20 years depside all difficulties, as a woman of the archaic era, she had to cope with. The standing figure of a woman waiting in the front door was the final result of the research I did through drawings and maquettes. The size of the plaster figure (2.10 meters) and the metal construction was in harmony with the scale and the atmosphere of the landscape and the rock it was placed on, symbolizes the island of Ithaka. The serenity of the figure reflects the character of Penelope who depside the difficulties and suffering she kept the peace in her heard with a strong belief in the expecting reunion with her beloved husband.
