The entitled exhibition “Scenes of peace “was consisting of the following projects
A-logon=a different name for a horse
A wooden horse found on the beach becomes an ambiguous object emerging as a memory from the collective subconscious causing fear and violence in the child’s psyche. It is the symbol of disharmony in an ideal world of an ignorant child. The word α-λογο (a-logon) in Greek has two meanings, horse and non -logical.
Astyanax ( king of the city )
The character of Astyanax whose name means “king of the city” is presented in various images because my intention is to give the consequences of war through the eyes of a child.in some case he carries a wooden horse on wheels to remind us of the Trojan Horse but for the ignorant child it is a simple toy.
Child_s Arc
Taking as a reference the experiences from my childhood I projected them to the collective subconscious and in this way I created a symbolical image which is both real and archetypal so as to communicate with the spectator.
The bed of the child is the currier of the child’s sensitivity and memory and it becomes a boat that endlessly travels away from fear and pain to a possible homeland.
Scenes of Peace 2008 – Τhe Exhibition
The Artistic language I use embodies the knowledge of history of art but in order to avoid historicism I use unconventional materials to give the sense of the tragic and ephemeral. The axis of my work is the human presence as it is crystallised in the classical literature, which creates characters -archetypes with which contemporary man can identify himself with.
The Farewell
The central motif of the exhibition is the direct reference in the farewell scene from Homer’s Iliad where Hector sees his wife Andromachi and his son Astyanax for the last time before he goes to the battle that will bring the end of his life.
The tragic atmosphere is immanent in the tender moment of the warriors’ farewell and the installation of the three figures and a wooden box in which the warrior is, in fact, hiding with fear, expresses the shadow of the fatal death which is about to happen.
